This started out as a "normal" family tree quest on my own family about thirty five years ago, but having very common family surnames (Webber / Jones), it very quickly proved to be a very thankless task. My married name however proved to be a little more fruitful because of its rarity - there's not many Bouteloups about!

It's estimated that there is only 2061 Bouteloups in total today in France and less than 50 worldwide, the majority of the family who live outside France are from the Jersey branch. The Jersey Bouteloup family name originates in Normandy, France, where the name occurs the most, and they came to Jersey in the early 1850s.
